THE MASTERMIND AU
NICK V. CN EDITION
It's time for Nick vs. CN's mastermind meme!
To those who aren't familiar, this is essentially an AU where your character is the one responsible for Nick v CN's Mutual Killing Game, and all of the carnage that came with it, from the kidnapping to the motives to the trials to the executions! And now, they have chosen to reveal themselves before the remaining members of their class at the final trial!
As such, you are free to play around with this as much as you would like; was your character just another pawn in the grand scheme of things, or did your character put everyone in the Killing Game for a different reason? What is your character's motivation for bringing despair? What do they intend to get out of this seemingly senseless killing? And what does the rest of the class have to do to stop the madness and go home?
There's probably going to be quite a bit of AUing from your character's original canon happening here to make them into the best harbingers of despair they can be, so feel free to go as nuts with it as you want to! And, of course, feel free to tag others with your character's reaction to their classmate's big reveal; it doesn't matter whether or not your character made it to endgame, have fun and mix up the survivor pool as much as you'd like!
Oh, and feel free to describe your character's sweet new Monobear-themed duds, too!!

You know, we could just. I dunno. Talk this over for a moment, don't you think?
[It is hard as fuck to sound composed and in control of yourself when you're trying to keep from throwing yourself into the abyss, but Wirt is doing his best. Which isn't too hot, but it's still his A game.]
no subject
We're talking now, aren't we? If you got a complaint, you can tell me now! Think of me as the Human Resources department and that I actually care what you're talking about!
[All these future things, like HR departments, are great. Everything is so nice and organized.]
no subject
So there's still something you want to hear out of us. And it'd be. You know. A lot easier to talk without the balancing.
[You take that back, he is nowhere near as annoying as Beatrice
he's slightly worse.]no subject
[Ugh. Sokka snaps his finger and the boards under Wirt grow wider.]
Now stop complaining. You're somewhat smart. I'm pretty sure you were the first to notice what my real name is! After all, the way you nailed Daffy was brilliant. He was pretty easy to convince into killing someone.
[Evidence list here!]
no subject
He flinches at the mention of Daffy. He still doesn't have much sympathy for Daffy, but to have it phrased like that...]
You're not Hakoda; you're Sokka. You were friends with Aang and Zuko and the others in the picture you had but...something happened. Something to make you hate them.
...Are you really that convinced they're responsible for her death?
no subject
His smile drops and he stares at Wirt blankly.]
They are. All of them are. Not just them. There's so many people to blame. Entire nations to blame.
[His smile comes back as he looks at Monobear.]
Should we have some fun with him?
[The Monobear nods, throwing its arms in the air.]
Let's play a guessing game, upupupupu~. What was once delicate, yet strong, but impaled oh so easily?
I don't know, Monobear! Let's let Wirt guess.
no subject
Sokka. You can't just...blame everyone, for Suki dying. I. I still don't know every detail, but they couldn't have done anything to stop it.
You couldn't have done anything to stop it.
no subject
YOU'RE NOT PLAYING THE GAME RIGHT! I'LL PUNISH YOU IF YOU DON'T ANSWER MY QUESTION RIGHT NOW!
[Sokka sit down on his throne and watches Wirt with what could only be described as hatred.]
... you better answer Monobear's question. Those boards can be broken oh so easily.
no subject
Wirt runs his hands slowly through his hair, taking a breath again to compose himself. He doesn't want to play this game, doesn't want to humor whatever insane feelings and fantasies Sokka harbors right now. But at the same time, he doesn't want to be sent screaming to his death in the abyss either.]
The answer is Suki.
[There, are you happy now? Can we move on?]
no subject
[Sokka's smile slowly comes back as he rests his hands on his lap. Oh, this was going better than expected. Wirt was still fighting him! This was great! That just means he has to work harder to make this little man break... piece by fragile little piece.]
Tick tock, tick tock. Better answer fast.
no subject
But when Monobear gives his next hint, Wirt's face falls a bit more, just shocked for a moment. He'd expected Monobear to always be that vicious, sure, but somehow. Somehow, knowing Sokka's role in all of it, and where he stands...
That makes it feel so much like a betrayal.
This time, Wirt goes from a frown to an out and out scowl, hands curling up into fists as he shakes his head.]
Don't talk about Beatrice that way.
cw suicide
[Sokka leans forward with a grin.]
She got the idea to kill herself from me. I did it in a very sneaky way. It made it seem like her idea! Of course she and I agreed that we had to destroy the letters we sent each other. That's why you never found them.
[He laughs as he sits back up.] I never thought she'd resort to using Jade to do it! Jade wanted to murder and Beatrice wanted to die! Those two were so lucky to run into each other that night in the casino. And no, that wasn't my doing. It was just fun to watch. Seeing all that despair was great!
no subject
[The words leave his mouth before he can even think about them, can even give them much thought before he's walking further down the plank, practically trying to push as hard against the glass as he can now.
Don't speak ill of her because she doesn't deserve it. Don't speak ill of her because she was a good person, despite being rough. Don't speak ill of her because she's his best friend.]
You're trying to make yourself sound more in control than you are. To make it seem like you really could just hurt me that much all the time. Even if you did convince her, she wouldn't have needed it. It's...it's how she is. How she always was, that she thought she had to be the person to be in pain or take other's burdens on herself.
...It's my fault she died. I know that too, if I had just been there for her more. Maybe she'd still be here.
But I mean, even if you did convince her...heh. I guess that's one of the more impressive things you've done in trying to get what you want? I mean, you can't even find where everyone you want vengeance against is hiding out, or how to make your plan work without the help of complete strangers you kidnapped. Are you having trouble figuring out how to make the war machine work, with or without us, too? I mean, that must suck.
But at least your clever enough to make a good person kill themselves. Congratulations.
no subject
Are you done?
[Because he is about to blow your mind!]
I know I'm in control! Those people I want vengeance against are right outside of these wall. I have cameras everywhere. That war machine was finished weeks ago, just sitting in a garage, waiting to be used! I've built a lot of machines that have killed a lot of people. I pride myself at being good at that. I am and was the brain of Team Avatar! Heck! Everyone listened to my plans on how to defeat the Fire Nation!
[He stands and motions to the hooded girl beside him.]
And I kidnapped you all to kill each other because of her. You think Steven has a lot of hope in his heart? This girl right here has him beat! Steven and Lapis were my first kidnapping goal. Those two made an amazing pair. Too bad Lapis cracked and went insane! It's impressive how that stupid little kid is holding on. I wonder what would happen if I shattered his gem...
no subject
Still, now that he mentioned the girl beside him...]
She can't have that much hope, if she's going along with this.
no subject
Look at her! Katara is still crying for all of you. Da Rules book says you can't hurt anyone with magic, but if you rip a few pages out? Then you can do whatever you want! Even turn your own sister into a living statue. Being able to hear and see everything going on in this house.
[He almost lovingly puts the cloak back over her before covering her face with the hood.]
I let her out at night. Ask her if she's still holding onto hope... you know, it doesn't matter how many times we repeat this, she still says she loves me. That I'll see that despair isn't the answer. I tell her I love her, too. Lock her in her room. In the morning it's still the same. "Hope, hope, hope, hope, HOPE!" I hate that word.
no subject
I was wrong.
From everything we got out of this, I...I thought you hated your sister just like you hated everyone else you had been adventuring with. But you don't. You don't just say you love her, you really do still love her because no matter what, she is your sister.
I get it now. All this despair. You never really cared about making us fall into despair. What you wanted was for your sister to give up hope and fall into despair along with you because you either can't or won't finish this without her with you. You could care less if we sided with you in the end, just so long as our situation broke your sister and made her side with you.
no subject
[Sokka sighs deeply.]
No. I want her to feel the same despair I feel. To watch the person you love above all else die in front of you. I want her to see me kill Aang. So she knows how I felt when Suki died. [He rips the cloak off, letting out a frustrated noise.] YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO GO WITH ZUKO, NOT STAY BEHIND WITH US! SUKI DIED BECAUSE OF YOU! BECAUSE AANG STOPPED TO SAVE YOU! You have no idea what it was like watching that damn Phoenix King just...
[After several moments of silence, he turns to Wirt with a look of sheer madness.]
I will kill all of you. But now that I'm thinking about it... I don't need my sister anymore. After all, family always holds you back. So do friends. I don't need any of you. Not unless you join me in despair.
no subject
That actually takes him off guard. Wirt realizes at that moment that he was, perhaps, projecting. That he was still wanting to see something in Sokka that just wasn't there. That, deep down, Sokka would still be fundamentally human in some respects.
He wasn't. Not anymore. Whatever he was, it was entirely monstrous and destructive, too much like the Beast. A part of Wirt wants to think that he isn't entirely wrong, but he can't be sure anymore. Sokka is too wild, too consumed with despair to actually predict.
But Sokka. If you're despair and she's hope, and not just that but someone that could signal hope in someone else, could be that important to someone else and you're showing that she's still alive and that there IS still hope...
Sokka. That was unbelievably dumb of you.
At Sokka's words, Wirt makes his face fall, looking down at the ground for a moment, before looking back up at Sokka, shuddering a little.]
There's...there's really no other way out of this, is there? There's nothing we can say to change your mind?
[Look at him, Sokka. He's starting to get it.
Please believe that he's starting to get it.]
no subject
Yes, he still had to play the role of the loyal friend. The friend that grieved with them, felt angry with them, cried with them... which made it fun to crush them. To see them all fall into despair.
Steven had to ruin it all. That optimism, love for everyone... Sokka's biggest regret was not killing that kid when he had the chance. Could have made it so easy to look like a freak accident. Make it look like Steven tried to make friends with a Monobear and just blew up. Heh. Oh well.
Hearing those words that Wirt... hmmm...]
Even if I changed my mind, you'd all still want me dead. The thing is... why would I change my mind? Hope abandons you. I know you've felt it. It's so much easier to let it go than to try and scramble after it. [Sokka snaps his fingers which makes the wind pick up in Wirt's section.] Give up hope. It'll only get you killed faster.
[He can put off getting rid of his sister for just a few more minutes. Really let it sink into Wirt's mind that there is no saving Sokka.]
