THE MASTERMIND AU MEME

THE MASTERMIND AU
AMBIDEX EDITION
With Round 3 now over, it's about time we had the mastermind meme!
To those who aren't familiar, this is essentially an AU where your character is the one responsible for Round 3's Mutual Killing Game, and all of the carnage that came with it, from the kidnapping to the motives to the trials to the executions! And now, they have chosen to reveal themselves before the remaining members of their class at the final trial!
As such, you are free to play around with this as much as you would like; did your character make a contract with Kyuubey, or did your character put everyone in the Killing Game for a different reason? What is your character's motivation for bringing despair? What do they intend to get out of this seemingly senseless killing? And what does the rest of the class have to do to stop the madness and go home?
There's probably going to be quite a bit of AUing from your character's original canon happening here to make them into the best harbingers of despair they can be, so feel free to go as nuts with it as you want to! And, of course, feel free to tag others with your character's reaction to their classmate's big reveal; it doesn't matter whether or not your character made it to endgame, have fun and mix up the survivor pool as much as you'd like!
Oh, and feel free to describe your character's sweet new Monobear-themed duds, too!!
Original meme text borrowed and modified from loveisanopendoor!

So what, that's all it takes? Some guy gives you a TV show and you're willin' to kill for him?
no subject
[A dismissive shrug.]
I'm not killing anyone! Well, I did kill Tucker, but I needed a reason you guys would think I'm dead. Anyway! [He clasps his hands together.] Don't you think this makes for great entertainment? All of you suffering and bonding is better than anything I could have imagined! Think of how happy he'll be with me!
[From the journals kept in the bedroom, it sounded as if it were written by someone who came from a peerless background and threw their life away for the sake of the King's attention. At first, the writer was cautious of the offer to join the empire, but he grew more and more warm towards. Then, a sudden change: in one entry, the journal mentions a planned visit to Porky's palace. The next entry is filled with single-minded adoration of the King: a stark contrast to the earlier low-key tone]
Wouldn't you do anything for the people that care for you?
no subject
Harvey could just be deluding himself here, because he wants to believe there's more to this. He knows that. Doesn't mean he's not right.]
Are you fucking high right now?
[WELL IT'S A LEGITIMATE QUESTION]
no subject
No? Why'd you say that? [He holds his arms out.] I'm high on happiness, if that's what you're saying!
no subject
We read those diaries you left in your room. You ever think about before all this?
no subject
Of course I do. I was unhappy then. But Master Porky found me, he showed how I could find happiness in those dark times. First, he made a musician that would sing his praises to the masses. Then he invited me to his private tower. And then...
[He turns back, smiling.]
He took me to the Nice Person Hot Springs, where I finally realized how much better of he'd be if I ran a game for him. All it took was a team of scientists to travel back in time and hand me their notes, and after months of planning, it was ready!
...I didn't like the bear motif, but, eh. That's what the original games used, and that's what we had to follow.
no subject
[Harvey steps out from behind his podium and starts approaching the stage. His hands are empty at his sides, he's no threat - and he doesn't even care if they think he is. Two months, twelve deaths (yes, twelve), all for this.]
No one's happy all the time. That ain't real, that's just somethin' you hear outta cultists and - and outer gods! You're a puppet dancin' on strings, and this guy's gotten so far in your head that you can't even see it. What's in those hot springs - what happened to you?
no subject
I learned to be happy. Isn't it human nature to find happiness, when everything else is going down the drain?
[His voice is quiet and cold.] Harvey, don't you also want to find happiness? You've been through so much, and as a reward, you and the others are free to live in our amazing empire. I know what each of you have been through, I think you deserve it.
no subject
[/sarcasm]
Kid, most of our friends are dead. We've got a whole lotta reasons not to be happy, and you ain't gonna take that from us. It'd be as good as forgettin' them.
no subject
[Not the most important part, Duster.]
Then forget them! Forget your sad memories, and replace them with happy ones! I even have a little something that can help with that first bit.
[A pedestal rises from the stage, holding the Egg of Light. There was a notebook detailing an artifact that could store and create memories...]
no subject
No. No, that ain't right. That ain't human! I...
...you know all about me, don't you? You know about Charlie. You think I should just forget him? Yes, it hurts, Duster! It's been years and it still hurts like hell, but that's because I love him! You want that to go away? You think it's worth tradin' my son away just so I don't have to feel sad sometimes?
That's life, kid. You care about anything, sooner or later you're gonna get hurt. [He spreads his arms.] If you're gonna take that from me, you might as well shoot me dead right here.
no subject
...Well, if you really want to die, you'll have to vote the right way. Do you want to hear the rules?
no subject
You don't care about how we feel. You ain't even listened to a word I've said. So sure. Tell me the rules.
no subject
Right, then. There are two buttons on your podiums: "Hope" and "Despair". Those aren't accurate names for their outcomes, but let me explain.
If all of you pick "Hope", you keep your memories and live, but in exchange, I, Duster, will die. You'll be free to leave, but you'll never learn true happiness.
But if one of you picks "Despair", you all live, and you'll be free to start your new lives in Master Porky's empire! You'll get over the pain of your pasts that have been hurting you for years.
So...which will it be?
[He sits on his throne and rests his chin on his hands. No matter what they pick, it's sure to be a fascinating debacle.]
no subject
[It doesn't make a real difference if he does. Harvey doesn't want to see Duster die. He wanted to save all of them. But he won't destroy everybody just to keep him alive - especially when he's hardly really living to begin with. Was the man he knew the real Duster, or did that person vanish long before they ever met?
Either way it's unnerving, seeing him so nonchalant about the possibility of his own death.]
no subject
He shrugs.] As long as you put on a good show for Master Porky, I'm happy.
no subject
[Harvey doesn't wait for permission. There is nothing to be said; his choice is clear. But he's not ready to throw Duster's life away that quickly. It's been two months. He has this much time left in him.]
When you were in there with us, were you acting? Or did you get your memories wiped too? 'Cause I gotta say, it was a real good performance either way.
no subject
My memories were fine. All I had to do was act like my pathetic old self, before I met Porky, before my life changes for the better. I couldn't get too attached to any of you guys.
no subject
[Harvey crosses his arms behind his back, eyes on the ground as he starts to pace the stage thoughtfully.]
It's like I said, right? Can't be bothered to care about anyone else if you wanna keep somethin' like this running. [He shakes his head faintly.] Funny. That night in the karaoke room, I could've sworn we were really all comin' together.
I did like playing with you.
no subject
I had a lot of fun, you know. It's not every day you do karaoke with a real singer. [He smiles.] We could do that more often, if you promise to stay with me.
no subject
[Harvey pauses where he is, looking speculatively at the Egg of Light.]
I wished I could've helped you, y'know? Watchin' that execution was... [He trails off, shaking his head.] I guess you do know. You were watchin' us after. You don't normally get a second chance, when you lose someone. I want to make this right.
[He sighs deeply, still staring at the Egg.
Then he reaches out, grabs it, and hurls it as hard as he can against the nearest wall.]
no subject
[He leans out of his throne when Harvey eyes the Egg. Something feels off about all this...
He reacts a second too late, and the Egg smashes against the wall.]
How could you do that?! Don't you know how important that thing is?!
[Father figures are the worst, each of them having smashed a thing he took care of against a hard surface. Why, Harvey? How could you? Duster has every right to attack you, but he's busy shaking his head in disbelief and ignoring the faint glow around the broken pieces.]
...What's wrong with you?
no subject
This? [He thrusts an angry finger at the broken shards, not turning to see the glow himself.] This is never happening again!
This ain't your fault, none of this is your fault! I am gonna do whatever I can for you, kid, but you - [An idea hits and he turns outwards, offstage where he suspects these cameras must be.] - you listen to me. Did you think we'd just kill him and go on our merry goddamn way like nothing happened? You want him to throw himself under the bus just so you can get a laugh? Fuck you! People ain't toys! Not us, not Duster! He's one of us now, and we don't toss our own away like things. We take care of each other. That's what families do.
[Because that's what they are, isn't it? They've stuck together through two months of death. They've held each other when they cried. Haruka called Duster her older brother. Harvey calls all of them his kids. Those aren't just pretty words. It doesn't just go away because one of them got mind-controlled or whatever the hell.
Harvey's vibrating with rage, fists tight at his sides. He wishes he had his gun, though the people he really wants to shoot are all elsewhere, watching from a distance like this is some fucking game.]
We're gonna get outta here. But if you think we're all just gonna go home and forget what you did, you have got another goddamned thing coming. We know whose hands all this blood's really on.
no subject
Maybe there is someone on the other side of the camera. Maybe there isn't.
As Duster turns to glare at Harvey, a series of small, faint, glowing orbs fly out of the smashed Egg. Duster catches himself before he can fall to the floor, but every other student receives their missing memories: their kidnapping, their transport to the Hotel of Mutual Killing, the 19 of them being taken to a lab for memory removal.]
no subject
...well, he's not entirely ready to hit that button and watch the results. But when are you ever?]
Alright, Duster, listen -
[He turns, still tense but calmer, and stumbles suddenly as the orb of light flies into him. It's very clear now why the previous memory drops happened while they were all asleep. It's disorienting, like weeks of memory all flashing through his head all at once. Harvey presses a hand to his temple, gaze unfocused as the memory of being jumped at the apartment, subdued and trapped in the dark, floods his senses.]
What the hell...?
